What is e-waste?Does your organisation have cupboards full of outdated computer and telephone equipment? If so, you are collecting “e-waste”. e-waste (electronic waste) also includes electronic cash terminals, monitors and LCDs, printers, cables, phone systems, printed circuit boards, test equipment and consumer electronics. With every new technological advance, old technology and equipment is discarded. As a result e-waste (electronic waste) is a growing problem, increasing at three times the rate of other solid wastes. Unfortunately several components and substances used in the manufacture of electronic items, such as television screens and monitors, can be harmful to both humans and the environment as they breakdown in landfill. If you have a growing problem with e-waste, let STAR advise you on the best way to recycle the components, while also disposing of any sensitive data that may remain on hard drives and in other electronic information repositories. |
